Off the bench against Spalding, Riverdale sophomore quarterback Asania Aderhold was impressive. And as a starter against Upson-Lee, he didn’t disappoint.

Aderhold completed 10-of-17 passes for 216 yards and rushed for a touchdown in a 21-0 victory over Spalding on Oct. 11.

“Once I got going, my teammates believed in me and everybody wanted me to succeed,” Aderhold said.

Then in a 36-23 win against Upson-Lee on Oct. 19, Aderhold, who made his first-career start, went 11-of-16 for 234 passing yards and two touchdowns.

“I was just thinking no mistakes, no turnovers—just try to spread the ball around so everybody can get their touches,” said Aderhold, who found out he was starting three days before the game.

Aderhold’s first TD pass was a wide-receiver screen to Kamhad Magwood that turned into a 61-yard completion, and his second was 20-yard pass to Rashad Canty which resulted in a 76-yard scoring play.

“My philosophy is to try to get the ball to my playmakers and let them do the rest,” Aderhold said.

The 6-foot-2 Aderhold, who has a 3.0 GPA, plans to also play basketball and tennis this year.
