The senior shortstop is hitting .434 and has 23 hits – including three doubles, three triples and a home run – to help lead the Tigers to a 13-2 record going into this week.
Byrd has had several games with multiple hits – including a 4-for-5 performance at the plate in the Tigers’ 13-3 opening-game victory over Holy Innocents’ Feb. 25.
King’s Ridge coach Jason Couch said Byrd – who has signed with LSU -- has been the team’s offensive stalwart as well as its leader on the field.
“The pitching has kind of been our strong suit, but Grayson has been our most sturdy hitter,” Couch said.
“He’s our lead-off hitter. He’s a senior and he’s going to LSU next year, so he kind of had a target on his back this year from opposing pitchers and scouts coming to watch him. But, he’s handled all that with great leadership and great class. He’s a very mature player. He’s a solid leader for us and has been our best hitter for sure.”
