North Atlanta is off to its best start on the baseball diamond in years and Jackson Echols is a big reason why.

The senior first baseman/right fielder has swung a hot bat this season, leading the team in batting average (.467), home runs (six), RBIs (28) and hits (21), to help guide the Warriors to a 12-3 record as of last Thursday.

“I’m a senior, so I’m under no pressure,” Echols said. “I’m just having fun. I’m fairly able to turn on balls, which has helped me a lot. I’m just having fun out there and it shows.”

Echols hit two home runs to lead North Atlanta to a 13-5 victory over Chamblee March 14 and hammered a towering drive of more than 400 feet for a homer in a 12-2 win over Pace March 16.

“He’s been very consistent,” North Atlanta coach Bill Dickey said. “He doesn’t really strike out and he’s very consistent every at-bat. He’s a big, strong guy and he can hit the ball hard.”

Echols’ baseball career will come to an end after this season as he moves on to Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, where he will take part in the school’s early commissioning program to train for a career as a U.S. Army officer.
