For Miller Grove senior Keith Pinckney, it wasn’t about just going to Tulane but what Tulane could offer to extend his basketball career.

“I chose Tulane because of the relationship with the coaches,” Pinckney said. “Assistant coach Shammond Williams played in the NBA. Under his tutelage that will definitely help me as a point guard since we play the same position.”

“The rest of the staff is also great,” Pinckney said. “Coach Ed Conroy has had a lot pro guards and every year that he has been at Tulane he has won more and more games.”

Pinckney, who celebrated his decision on Nov. 19, also liked the fact that Tulane will be joining the American Athletic Conference next year.

“Tulane going to AAC, which features a lot of big-time programs, will be a big-time opportunity for me as a freshman,” Pinckney said.

However with one more season as a Wolverine on the horizon, Pinckney’s focus is to help the team capture a sixth straight state title.

“It’s going to take all of us being on one accord and being committed,” Pinckney said. “Boycotting everything else and staying focused on our common goal. If we do that we can definitely win the state title.”

Last season Pinckney, who has a 3.7 grade-point average and an interest in business, averaged nearly 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
