Kevin Johnson has established himself as a major NCAA Division I prospect in his first two seasons at quarterback for Pace.

The junior picked up where he left off as he completed 12 of 15 passes for 245 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Knights to a season-opening 38-23 victory over Whitefield Aug. 30.

Johnson threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Kameron Uter in the first quarter, and then completed his scoring trifecta in the second quarter with a 5-yard run and a 41-yard strike to Trevor Cefalu.

“He made a lot of big plays,” Pace coach Chris Slade said. “He was very poised in the pocket. He did a real good job of commanding the huddle and running the offense, especially with a whole new system and some new players. I thought he did a really good job controlling the offense and being a leader of the team.”

It is this kind of performance that has attracted a number of Division I programs to Johnson, with Boston College, South Carolina, William & Mary and Richmond among his top suitors.

“Kevin has a promising college career ahead of him,” Slade said. “He can make all the throws. He has a very strong arm. He’s very accurate. He’s not the fastest guy on the field, but he’s fast enough where he can make a lot of plays on his feet.”
