Hapeville Charter’s first full season on the varsity level and in Region 6-AA was not a great one but Keyantee Thurman was definitely one of the bright spots for the Hornets.

The senior wide receiver, cornerback, safety and kick returner consistently made an impact at each position, more notably on special teams.

“Keyantee’s ability to return kicks to the 40-yard line has instrumental in us marching down the field,” Hapeville Charter coach Winston Gordon said. “Field position is the name of the game when you are talking football.”

Thurman was also impressive on defense.

“He’s done a great job at corner,” Gordon said. “I just want to make him as versatile as possible for his college situation. That is one thing I try to do with my seniors is to make sure they are able to play multiple positions so when the recruiting process comes along, they are marketable players.”

Thurman said cornerback and wide receiver are the positions he prefers to play and his goal is to continue to play football at any college.

Until then, he will be preparing for the 100 and 200-meter events in track and field. Thurman has a 3.1 GPA and plans of majoring in business or economics.

Hapeville finished the season with a 3-7 record and 0-4 mark in league play.
