Luke Wright established himself as a player to watch when he took over as the starting quarterback for Holy Innocents’ last year.

The senior signal caller has continued to build on the promise that he showed in 2012 this season.

Going into the Golden Bears’ game with Our Lady of Mercy last Friday, Wright had completed 42 of 87 passes for 603 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for 139 yards on 62 carries and three scores.

In Holy Innocents’ 55-0 victory over crosstown rival Mount Vernon Presbyterian, he completed four of five passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns – including a 58-yard scoring pass to Clay Pfohl – while also reaching the end zone on a 12-yard run.

He also had a big game in the Golden Bears’ 35-21 loss to crosstown rival Riverwood, completing eight of 15 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

“The big thing is this year is that Luke is managing the offense very well and obviously, we’re throwing the ball more this year than in the past,” Holy Innocents’ coach Ryan Livezey said. “I would say he’s played his heart out in every game he’s played this season and is trying to do everything he can, whether it’s throwing the ball or getting us in the right place.”
