Stockbridge senior running back Malik Bryan definitely had a season debut worth remembering.

On Aug. 31, the 5-foot-7, 178-pound back rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns on 30 carries in a 32-7 victory over Tri-Cities.

“I knew if my line got out and blocked to just stay behind them and I would have a good game,” said Bryan, who also plays outside linebacker. “Touchdown wise that was one of my best games.”

According to, Bryan is one of six Tigers being recruited to play on the next level. He is being looked at closely by Florida State, Georgia, Miami (OH) and Middle Tennessee St.

Bryan said he doesn’t know where he will attend college but hopes to end his career as a state champion.

“Last year, I felt like we kind of beat ourselves in the Marist game,” he said. “After the game I was hurt, and then when we watched the film it hurt even more. I felt like we should’ve won that game.

“This year the seniors are taking the responsibility of leading our team,” Bryan said. “We don’t want to be saying what we should have done or that we could have won state. We want to be the ones to say we did get a ring.”

Last Friday, Bryan didn’t have a stellar encore performance, but Stockbridge improved to 2-0 with a 15-8 home win against Upson-Lee.
