This time of the season, a non-region win or loss usually doesn’t carry much weight but a win does help team morale. Senior Michael Warren helped Dutchtown with this when he drove in the go-ahead run in the Bulldogs’ 9-4 comeback victory over Decatur on April 10.

After Gerald Carter, who struck out seven batters in seven innings, and Josh Hunter scored on an error to tie the game at 4-4, Warren bounced a pitch to third to allow Sam Glickman to score and beat the throw to first for an infield hit.

“The coaches tried to calm me down because they thought a lot was going through my head but nothing was going wrong,” Warren said.

“I was just trying to make contact. I didn’t expect to get on but it worked out.”

“He didn’t try to do too much and just tried to put the ball in play,” Dutchtown coach Kelcey White said.

“We need seniors like Michael Warren to step up and make those kind of plays.”

Jordan Griffin, Rafiel Cabral and Kahlil Parks all added RBI singles to extend the margin during the eight-run fifth.

“I told them before that inning that all nine of y’all need to come to the plate and all nine of them came to the plate,” White said.

Warren will play at Andrews College next year.
