Rankin Woley has been an impact player for Westminster since stepping in for the injured Jake Forte at quarterback in the Wildcats’ second game of the season.

A jack-of-all-trades who has also played running back and linebacker, Woley made his presence felt immediately in his first game as a starting signal-caller — rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns for Westminster in its 27-13 loss to last year’s Class AAA state runner up St. Pius X Aug. 30.

He also rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-14 win over Thomasville and ran for two more scores and completed all three of his passes for 67 yards in a 35-14 win over Wesleyan Oct. 18.

For the season, Woley has completed 55 percent of his passes, throwing for 429 yards and eight touchdowns, as well as rushing for 307 yards and three scores.

Before giving up his position at linebacker after taking over at quarterback, Woley recorded 18 tackles in the game and a half that he played on defense.

“For a sophomore to step up as the starting quarterback and play as well as he had is incredible,” Westminster assistant coach Joe Sturniolo said. “His performance, young as he is, is impressive.”
