Woodward Academy junior Robert Williams III is better known as Trey by his teammates and described as versatile by his coach.

“Trey is an example of hard work paying off,” Woodward boys’ basketball coach Anthony Thomas said. “We got about five or six guys averaging eight points or better so for him to lead us with 14 says a lot. He just puts the ball in the basket. He is probably one of the most versatile guys we have.”

Williams mostly plays the small forward position and credits much of his scoring from getting layups and put backs.

“I’m pretty aggressive going for the rebounds,” said Williams, who has also averaged six boards through nine games.

In the War Eagles’ fifth straight win, a 71-65 victory over Cedar Grove on Dec. 14, Williams scored 22 points.

“We’ve been playing well as a team and in practice we’ve been working a lot harder,” Williams said. “We lost two games in a row and after that we were like ‘we’re not going to lose anymore this season.’”

“We’re not satisfied at all with the winning streak but we are proud of the effort so far,” Thomas said.

Williams also has a 3.4 GPA and an interest in business.
