Not only will Eagle’s Landing senior Sedrick Palmer be in a new football setting next year but he will occupy a new position on the field.

On National Signing Day, Feb. 5, Palmer signed his letter of intent to play at Coastal Carolina.

“I felt like it was a good school,” Palmer said. “I had offers from bigger schools but with a lot of coaching changes and stuff like that I had to go somewhere with some stability.”

As a new member of the Chanticleers’ program, Palmer will not play running back or linebacker like at Eagle’s Landing, but he will line up at strong safety.

“I think it will be a real easy transition, to be honest,” Palmer said. “I could always cover real good. I just have to enhance my film study a little more and study offenses a little more in-depth. I felt good about staying on the defensive side of the ball in college. Knowing that I had battled some injuries on the offensive side, it’s always good to be on the defensive side of the ball long-term.”

Last season, the 5-foot-10, 210-pound Palmer had 84 tackles (45 solo and seven for loss), while rushing for 747 yards and nine touchdowns.

“Sedrick was an all-region and state linebacker,” Eagle’s Landing coach Joe Teknipp said. “He really set the table for us.”
