Before the start of the Region 6-AAA tournament, Woodward Academy senior Solomon Mangham was named Region 6-AAA Player of the Year.

“I was happy I got recognized,” Mangham said. “Not everybody can say they were region player of the year in their career. My trainer Rob Lawrence was never the region player of the year and he was pretty good.”

“It was a tough decision,” Woodward boys’ coach Anthony Thomas said. “There are a lot of good players in the region. It was a matter of Solomon being more consistent during the region season.

“He probably averaged a double-double during all our region contests and coaches recognized that and recognized he is a big part of what we do,” Thomas said. “The vote was pretty close but I’m glad our guy won.”

Mangham, who is listed at 6-foot-7, is also effective because of his ability to operate outside of the paint.

“He’s a matchup problem because of his skill set,” Thomas said. “He’s got the size and strength to take you down around the basket and finish. He’s also got the tools to play out on the wing and shoot the ball from distance.”

Mangham said he will decide where to play college basketball after the season.
