The Ryan P. Means 9/11 Victory Run will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 140 at Chastain Park in Buckhead.

The event will benefit the post’s Ryan P. Means Legion Hut and aims to provide a day of patriotic remembrance for those most affected by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The hut is a gathering place for veterans, including those who served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The 5-kilometer race, which started on the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, is named for the Brookhaven native who enlisted in the Army in 2004 after his friend, Adam White, died in the World Trade Center during the attacks.

Means, who lived in New York, eventually became part of the Special Forces but was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in May 2009 and died two months later.
