With her selection, the 21-year old Meier, who went on to play at the college level at Wake Forest, became the first female soccer player from the school to be drafted by a professional team.
She will join a Seattle squad — one of eight teams in the new league — that includes U.S. Women’s National Team players Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe and Amy Rodriguez.
Meier lettered in varsity soccer for four years — from 2006 to ’09 — at Marist, leading the the War Eagles to the Class AAAA state title in ’08 and ’09.
She moved on to Wake Forest, where she was the first player on the school’s women’s soccer team to be chosen to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 2011.
