The Wingman Foundation, in partnership with Verizon Wireless and The Home Depot Foundation, will present the Ultimate Wingman Military awards banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

The event will recognize and reward three Georgia-based troops for their exemplary service. These military heroes will be honored for being wingmen to the country. Their stories of service and sacrifice will be shared amidst family, friends and the local community.

Participants in the program include Lt. Gen. Dana T. Atkins, Ansel Brown and Steve Rizzo. Atkins, president of The Augusta Chronicle, served as Lieutenant General in the U.S. Air Force. At the time of his retirement he was commander of Alaskan Command, Alaska NORAD Region, Joint Task Force Alaska and 11th Air Force at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Rising country star, Brown, will perform a couple of his hits, including “Our Country,” his new patriotic anthem recognizing veterans. Rizzo, a longtime comedian and motivational speaker, also known as the “Attitude Adjuster,” will handle emcee duties for the evening.

Tickets are $100, $65 for all retired and active military and their spouses and can be purchased at

The foundation, co-founded by Lt. Col. Rob “Waldo” Waldman and his twin brother Dave, raises funds and awareness for soldiers, veterans and their families in need. A portion of the banquet proceeds will be used to benefit Hire Heroes USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating job opportunities for U.S. military veterans and their spouses through personalized employment training and corporate engagement.

Those honored will give back to nonprofits of their choosing that support various causes on behalf of troops and veterans.

“No group embraces the wingman characteristics of service and courage more than the men and women of the U.S. military,” said Waldman. “The banquet will honor those troops who have served their country and community above and beyond the call of duty. It will also bring hope and confidence to a nation starved for inspiration by giving special thanks to the best of our country’s military.”

The Waldmans grew up being each other’s wingman: encouraging and lifting each other up to live the American dream. In the process, they have learned the true meaning of teamwork, trust, courage and service.

Not your typical twins, Waldo is a former combat decorated fighter pilot, motivational speaker and author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller, “Never Fly Solo.” Known as “The Wingman,” he has been featured on Fox News, CNN and The Harvard Business Review.

Dave is a successful entrepreneur, career coach, fitness and nutrition expert and all-natural bodybuilding champion.
