The National Charity League Milton Chapter, now entering its second year, hosted its kickoff meeting for 186 members Aug. 19 at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta.

The league is one of the nation’s most well-respected and oldest mother-daughter organizations with its mission to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences.

Currently the league has more than 188 chapters with more than 50,000 members that thrive in 22 states. Annually, its members from coast to coast volunteer about 1 million hours in their local communities.

The league’s Milton chapter added 60 new members which includes mothers and daughters in grades seven through 12.

The chapter draws its membership from the Milton schools and surrounding area.

At the kickoff meeting mothers and daughters planned for an exciting year of philanthropic service.

“I’m so honored to represent this group of mothers and daughters," said Lezlie Renee’ Pipes, founding Milton chapter president.

“It is so exciting to see the amount of dedication our members have put into giving to our community. Last year our members gave over 1,700 hours, this year we have given another 1,700 hours in the last four months.

“This is a huge accomplishment and I can’t wait to see what the next eight months will bring. As our programming and volunteer opportunities have increased our members continue to make a big impact in the community.”

Peyton Lea Henyon, a seventh grader at Perimeter Christian School and new member, “I’m so happy to be a part of NCL. I like that I can volunteer with my mom and help other kids in my area.”

At the kickoff meeting mothers and daughters brought carloads of groceries, more than 2,600 items, to stock Act Together Ministries Food Pantry located at Vine Community Church in south Forsyth County. Act Together Ministries, a children’s charity based in Alpharetta, provides groceries to families in need. To donate, volunteer at the food pantry, organize a food drive or request food, visit
