The Grinch was right. Douglas County is being filled with the sounds of joyful and triumphant music during the holiday season.
For the 14th consecutive year, the Douglas County Courthouse atrium will be filled with youthful voices from schools throughout the county.
On weekdays from Tuesday through Dec. 21, choral groups from 23 schools will give holiday performances beginning at 12:15 p.m.
“The concerts have become a holiday tradition,” said Wes Tallon, county director of communications and community relations.
“They give our schools a unique public venue to show off the musical talents of their students, which help them develop musical and performance abilities, as well as their self-confidence.”
The concerts will be broadcast live on DCTV23, and replayed on weekends or can be heard online at www.celebratedouglascounty .com.
The concerts are free and open to the public. Seating is available in the atrium.
Some other Christmas-themed musical events will include:
- “A Family Christmas Concert” by the West Atlanta/Douglas Choral Society Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Mashburn Theater at Douglas County High School.
In its 26th season, the Christmas performance includes a variety of musical and narrative presentations, explained Waverly Rainey, artistic director and conductor.
The concert will feature guest artists including gospel singing star Babbie Mason, vocalist Edward Bridges Jr., violinist Trisha Rutledge, ballet and interpretive dancer Katarina Obermeyer, and the Douglas County Concert Choir, under the direction of Karl Kuhlken.

- The Douglas County Chamber Singers, under the direction of Vicki Orme, will present a Christmas concert on Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. at Douglasville First United Methodist Church, at the corner of Prestley Mill Road and Hospital Drive.
The program will consist of traditional Christmas favorite hymns and songs, said member Heather Nutter.
Guest artists are hand bell performer Frank Buttler, the Krogh Family from Cobb County and the Douglas County Young Singers, which began in 2010 as branch of the Chamber Singers consisting of youth ages 9 to 17.
The Douglas County Chamber Singers is a 35-member group and a satellite of the Douglasville/Douglas County Cultural Arts Center, established in 2002.
Admission is free, however, tax deductible donations are accepted.
