Police reports of note from the Atlanta Police Department Zone 2, which includes Buckhead, July 13 through July 19, and the Sandy Springs Police Department, July 17 through 24.

Provided by Atlanta Police Officer L. Illery and Sandy Springs Capt. Steve Rose

o WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING: At a residence at the 500 block of Granite Ridge Place in Sandy Springs July 20, a man reported he came home from work at about 3 p.m. and slept on his couch until 4 a.m. the next day. When he woke, he noticed drawers in the room were open and later realized a gun, shotgun, table and two watches were stolen. The shotgun was later recovered when officers arrested two men on Northridge Crossing Drive. The arrested person had attempted to sell the shotgun for $20.

o DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS: At the Publix at 1100 Hammond Drive in Sandy Springs July 21, employees reported a woman described as black, in her 20s, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and wearing a blue dress left the store with two peach teas, one lemonade, two fruit salads and two sandwiches she did not pay for. She was confronted and gave the items back, then drove away.

o I WANT MY $2: Police were called to a parking lot at 993 Johnson Ferry Road in Sandy Springs on an unknown date after a man and a parking attendant disputed over the fee owed. The driver of the car said he thought the doctor’s office covered the parking but in fact it discounted $4 of $6 leaving a $2 balance that with didn’t sit well with the driver. The supervisor came over, and apparently things didn’t go any better with some reported hand-slapping and other “silly goose” nonsense. Police could not determine an aggressor so they told everyone to go their separate ways.

o GIVING THEM THE FINGER: At about 7:40 a.m. on an unknown date, an officer spotted a man and woman walking in the 4600 block of Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. The man was yelling at passing cars and “flipping them off.” He did the same to bus passengers at the bus stop. The officer said the woman was yelling at the man but the man was flipping off everything in sight. The officer spoke to the man, noting he was in a “combative” stance. The officer asked if he had any weapons. The man said he had a knife. The officer instructed him to sit on the ground and hand over the knife. The man said “he didn’t sit for anyone,” which first of all sounds stupid, like a bad scene from a “Monty Python” skit. The officer arranged for the man to sit, this time with handcuffs. He was later arrested for disorderly conduct. The woman said they had been up all night drinking. She had known him for only a month and it sounded like she wasn’t going to stay up to get him out of jail.

o BUSTED: In a police report filed July 13, the owner of Basil’s restaurant at 2985 Grandview Ave. in Buckhead said an employee admitted to taking eight blank checks from a business account and cashing them without consent. The victim was alerted to the theft when he was contacted by the Publix in Atlantic Station to check the validity of the check. The checks totaled $988. There are still three outstanding checks that weren’t cashed.

o EXPENSIVE TASTES: An employee reported July 17 the Versace store located in Phipps Plaza at 3500 Peachtree Road in Buckhead was burglarized that day between 6:23 and 6:25 a.m. The store’s surveillance video showed three black males wearing jackets with hoods entered the store and took 29 purses, five wallets and several watches valued at a total of about $85,000. A copy of the surveillance video was forwarded to an investigator, and police processed the store for fingerprints and other evidence.

The names and charges above are from area arrest warrants and crime reports. A warrant is merely an accusation of a crime and accused people are innocent until proven guilty.
