One of the driving forces during this run has been senior outside hitter/setter Gloria McGoldrick, whose versatility on the court has been a strong asset to the Vikings squad. Through Oct. 3, she’s tied for the county lead in aces per match (4.4) and fourth in kills per contest (5.2). McGoldrick also serves as a playmaker for Lakeside, averaging more than 12 assists per match and gets nearly six digs every contest as well, both of which place her in the top-five in DeKalb.
“Gloria has become our go-to player when we need points,” Lakeside head coach Angela Thompson said. “Her volleyball IQ is very high.”
McGoldrick has been a part of the Vikings program for four seasons and played on the varsity team during that entire span. She also plays for the Tsunami club team with Lakeside teammate Caroline Adams.
Lakeside has just finished its area schedule undefeated (10-0), is currently ranked in the top-ten in the state polls and will begin its march towards a state championship in the postseason within the next two weeks.
“We’ve progressed better this season than I thought,” Thompson said. “The expectations were high coming off of a final four season and we’re turning the corner.”
