The Stephenson football team had one of the highest-profile season opening contests in the entire state, hosting the Norland Vikings out of Miami on Aug. 31. Behind 120 rushing yards and four touchdowns from Dallas Rivers, the Jaguars were able to notch an impressive 29-12 victory in the contest.

Rivers’ first score came on a ten-yard touchdown run late in the first half, giving the Jaguars a 7-0 lead heading into halftime.

A one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave Stephenson a 15-6 lead.

Rivers’ final two touchdowns came on runs of 19 and six yards in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

“Dallas had a tremendous impact and a lot to do with our win,” Stephenson head coach Ron Gartrell said. “This was his first game with us and seemed to get better throughout the contest.”

Rivers has verbally committed to play football at Vanderbilt University next fall.

The Jaguars will return to action on Friday against Dunwoody.
