Each week the library hosts a reading time for toddlers called “Twinkle Time” and one for pre-schoolers titled “Story Time,” which welcomes 3- and 4-year-olds.
Children’s Specialist Jessica Hollis reads to the youngsters each week, choosing a different theme to keep their attention and make a craft.
“We usually theme them to the seasons, look at the calendar and see what holidays are coming up,” Hollis said.
Hollis has worked with children at the library for 11 years.
This week’s “Story Time” theme was farm animals.
The children’s specialist started the activity off with a book called “Rock-a-bye Farm.” Twenty-four little eyes looked on with wonder as Hollis read about sleepy farm animals.
After reading the first book, things picked back up when Hollis led the group in a round of “Old MacDonald.”
A little one named Richard danced around to the upbeat farm anthem.
“Barnyard Banter” was the second and final book Hollis read to the pre-schoolers before they got to sit at a table and put together a horse made of construction paper.
When Hollis asked the kids if they were ready to make that week’s craft, they all shouted in agreement, “Yeah!”
The room was filled with purple, yellow and red highlighted horses as the children colored and constructed their mini horses.
Hollis said mostly the same children come every week with moms, dads or grandparents.
Jill Holcomb, mother to Richard Holcomb, 4, has been taking her son to the reading times at the library for three years.
All the children seemed to look forward to the story time.
“My favorite part is the kids have so much fun,” said Hollis. “It’s fun to see them have such a good time.”
