New Year’s Eve alternatives available

For the young, the old and the classical music lover, the following events provide ways to celebrate the New Year aside from the typical party atmosphere:

Benson complex

The Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex will host its New Year’s Eve celebration a day early, Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and there will be live entertainment.

The complex is at 6500 Vernon Woods Drive in Sandy Springs.

Children’s museum

The Children’s Museum of Atlanta will host a party for children ages 8 and under Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

Disney characters Princess Tiana and Price Charming will lead the children in cotillion dancing. There will be a countdown at noon.

The party is free with general admission to the museum, which is $12.75. Reservations are recommended.

The museum is at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Drive in downtown Atlanta.



Legoland Discovery Center Atlanta will host an early New Year’s Eve balloon drop Tuesday at noon. There will be other activities for children throughout the day.

The balloon drop is free with admission, which starts at $11 online.

Legoland is at Phipps Plaza, 3500 Peachtree Road in Buckhead.


ASO event

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra invites guests to ring in the New Year with music. The orchestra, led by guest conductor Jack Everly and featuring vocalist Judy McLane and pianist Michael Chertock, will present Gershwin favorites such as “I Got Rhythm” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me.”

The concert starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets range from $31 to $69.

The symphony hall is at 1280 Peachtree St. in Midtown.
