Count Whitefield Academy’s new Headmaster Kevin Bracher among them.
Bracher had served as interim headmaster of the private Cobb County school located near Vinings since January, when then-Headmaster John Lindsell resigned.
“Next year will mark my 20th year in educational leadership,” said Bracher. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by becoming the lead servant at Whitefield Academy at a time when Whitefield is on the verge of becoming an organization with greatness that endures.”
In other news, Riverwood International Charter School welcomed Robert Shaw to its campus throughout the summer.
North Springs High School also has a new head educator in charge. Eddie Ruiz, a Florida transplant, accepted the principal position there in mid-June.
The Neighbor recently caught up with Ruiz to discuss, among other things, his vision for the 2013-14 school year at North Springs and beyond.
On his assessment of the
environment at NSHS:
“I’ve met with over 70 stakeholders — parents, teachers, students, staff members and leadership.
“As part of my 90-day plan, I wanted to do three things: listen, to learn and build relationships. For the first couple of weeks, I was hearing a lot of things … just like building a tapestry, you have to [envision] the big picture.
“I’m seeing a lot of consistencies … things that are going really well and things the community should be proud of as well as areas I should focus on, opportunities for growth.”
“The things I know for sure already: I know North Springs is a school that’s rich in traditions, rich in culture … it sits up at the top of the hill in Sandy Springs.
“Based on everybody that I talked to from the community, I know that North Springs High is held in high regard.
“Another thing I learned from my interaction with the teachers is they tend to be here for a long time — the average [tenure] is between six to 10 years. That says a lot … they’re willing to be here and they enjoy the community.”
On NSHS distinctions:
“We are the only dual magnet school in the state of Georgia — performing arts and math and science [curricula] — so that gives us the opportunity to do some really unique things.
“Lastly, we’re a charter school with a lot of parental involvement. There a lot of positives to take away from that.”
On his first year:
“Basically, I want to focus on three things: communication, culture and consistency. Those are three areas where I think we could do a little bit better.
“When I say communication, I mean [involving] leadership, teachers, parents and students. It’s vital that everyone knows what’s going on.”
