Paulding County’s finest young runners participated in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Region 5-AAAAA Cross Country Championships at White Oak Park in Dallas Saturday.

In the boys’ varsity race, Hiram senior Jabob Robinson added another victory to his stellar career, winning the race with a course-record time of 16:35.31. It was Robinson’s third individual win of the season. East Paulding’s Christian Nix finished second at 16:40.00, placing just ahead of Michael Williams (16:40.25) out of South Paulding and North Paulding’s Cory Hancock (16:40.52). Joseph Rendon (16.41.05) of Hiram rounded out the top-five.

North Paulding won the boys’ varsity team title with 44 points, finishing ahead of second-place Hiram (88) and fifth-place East Paulding (116). Both North Paulding and Hiram have qualified as a team for the state championships in Carrollton on Saturday, Nov. 9.

“We’re very proud to qualify for state and finish so well overall,” Hiram head coach Russell Brand said. “We beat very good teams and are now working on a great run at the state competition.”

The North Paulding girls’ varsity team also won its team competition, finishing with 49 points, qualifying for state and edging Woodland. Rome’s Jenna Tilton won the individual title, running a time of 19:39.31. East Paulding’s Allyssa Sheffield’s time of 20:18.05 was good enough for fifth overall which was also the place the Raiders finished in the team competition.

Three Wolfpack girls’ team runners, Ashley Taylor (20:41.71), Natalie Coolidge (20:48.80) and Auburn Cohan (20:51.08) each placed in the top 10 individually to pace their squad to the win. North Paulding also placed first in the boys’ and girls’ open competitions with Jake Taylor (17:43.26) and Savannah Watkins (21:19.58) earning individual wins.

“I was very excited for both varsity teams to win their first region titles,” North Paulding head coach Mike McGuire said. “It’s what the kids have been working towards all season and they were able to persevere and achieve our team goal.”
