In a news release Friday, North Springs Charter High School in Sandy Springs announced Eddie Ruiz, EdD, of Orlando, Fla., has been named the school's new principal. He will officially begin work Monday.

Ruiz replaces Lisa Stueve, who in March announced she would resign at the end of the 2012-13 academic year due to family health issues.

He has broad experience as a former high school science teacher, coach, high school assistant principal at two large, diverse high schools and principal of two middle schools, Acceleration Academy and, for the past three years until last week, Jackson Middle School.

In a recent letter to the North Springs community introducing Ruiz, Fulton County Schools Area Superintendent Karen Cox said she is confident in Ruiz and thanked the interview committee, parents, students and faculty for their input during the selection process this spring.

"He has great experience and credentials that make him a great fit for your school. He is the right person, at the right time, for North Springs,” she said.

Newly elected North Springs Governance Board Chairwoman Betty Klein, who also served on the interview committee, said, “We're very excited to have Dr. Ruiz. He impressed us all with his energy, enthusiasm, integrity and experience. We welcome him and look forward to his leadership and to working with him."

Ruiz was introduced to the entire governance board during its meeting Wednesday.

"My number one goal this summer is to listen and learn from as many teachers, parents, staff and students that I encounter about the culture, traditions, and history of North Springs,” he said at the meeting. “I look forward to being a Spartan and to working together to bring North Springs Charter High School to the next level."

Ruiz will be relocating to the Atlanta area with his wife of 14 years, Elizabeth, and their son, Ethan, 6.
