In a highlight-filled offensive shootout that featured 14 touchdowns and over 1,100 yards of offense, Creekview prevailed over Northview 56-42 in 7A-AAAAA action.

“Give all the credit to Creekview and coach Morrell,” said Northview coach Chad Davenport after the game. “They are a tremendously coached team, have a lot of seniors and are a very good football team.

“I thought we did some things well though. Its only our third game with [DJ Pearson] at quarterback and he continues to progress, and it sounds silly when you give up 56 points but we did some good things on defense too.”

Pearson finished the game 27-of-43 passing for 367 yards and four total touchdowns but Creekview quarterback Hayden Hall led a record night for the Grizzly offense too, throwing for 247 yards and four touchdowns while receiver Hunter Udall hauled in five passes for 267 yards and two scores.

The win moves Creekview (5-1, 2-0) into a tie for first place with Forsyth Central in 7AAAAA-North while dropping Northview (1-5, 1-1) into a tie for third place with Sequoyah.

“Offensively we told the boys that they were a good offensive team and we told them if they scored we were going to answer,” said Creekview coach Al Morrell. “Hayden our quarterback had an outstanding night, Chandler Wold broke a few plays and I cant remember half of what happened but we came out on top.”

In a wild first 12 minutes of action, the Titans gave Creekview its best shot early by displaying a big-play offense.

Running back Terrence Upshaw scored on his first two carries of scrimmage — from 11 and 80 yards out — and Pearson connected with Isaac Hart for a 75-yard touchdown to give Northview three first quarter touchdowns.

But Hall and the Grizzly offense matched them step-for-step. The senior quarterback hit Udall for scores of 88 and 30 yards on their first two possession and dropped a beautifully thrown ball into Will Kirby’s hands for a 49-yard score to end the first quarter with a 21-21 tie.

Joey Noll returned a punt 50 yards for a score less than a minute into the second quarter and with a lead in hand the Creekview defense got their legs under them from there — holding Northview to just seven points for the next 30 minutes of play.

Up 28-21, Wold scampered in from 28 yards out to extend the lead to 14 then Wold found Kirby on a 70-yard halfback pass to give Creekview a 42-21 edge at intermission.

Northview cut the lead to 14 on a 3-yard Pearson run but Creekview pulled away for good when Hall threw his fourth touchdown of the game to Chase Callahan late in the third quarter and Wold added a 38-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

“We’re making some steps in the right direction and still have a lot to play for with three sub region games left,” said the Northview coach. “We just have to start finding a way to get off the field on those third-and-longs.”

Pearson threw fourth quarter touchdowns to Anterrious Green (31 yards) and Upshaw (10 yards) to bring the game to a 56-42 final.

Upshaw finished the night 166 rushing yards on 17 carries and three total touchdowns. Zach Sullivan caught 11 balls for 122 yards.
