Park Place opened last July and will be celebrating the first year with a picnic Aug. 18 that will include food, music and giveaways.
The active adult center serves Johns Creek residents ages 62 and older. The center offers classes, day trips and other programs such as a walking club and driver safety courses.
Johns Creek resident Manny Silver said he enjoys the center on a regular basis and even recently celebrated his birthday at the monthly evening dinner club.
“This is a good getaway if you want to get away and meet other people, seniors,” he said. “Everyone’s so friendly. The staff here, they can’t do enough for you.”
Silver said he is planning to attend the one-year anniversary picnic and has even planned to bring his grandchildren to join in the fun.
Bonnie Bock is also planning to attend the picnic. Bock has been involved in classes — such as Zumba and Pilates — at the center since it opened last year and now serves on the activity committee.
“I like the classes and the activities. They have wonderful teachers and it’s a very nominal fee and we enjoy it,” she said. “It’s really grown. Nobody was here for a while but it’s really come a long way.”
The picnic will include activities for children such as face painting and snow cones, and Publix will provide hot dogs and hamburgers for attendees. Organizers will also have Park Place T-shirts and door prizes to give away.
The picnic starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Park Place is at 3125 Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek.
