The inaugural Paulding Festival of Trees hosted by the board has a twofold purpose — it’s a holiday event for the community and a way for the association to raise money for charity.
Leading up to the event, the Paulding Board of Realtors has been selling Christmas trees and wreaths to business owners and individuals to decorate. All the trees and wreaths will be on display in the Paulding Senior Center Nov. 16. As people attend the free daytime event, they will be given the opportunity to vote on which tree or wreath they like the best.
“At the end of the event, we’ll announce the top three favorite trees and the [winners] will receive a nice award,” Paulding Board of Realtors president Rhonda Bowman said.
In addition, live entertainment and children’s activities are planned, with Santa on board for photos for no charge as residents are asked to bring their own cameras to snap pictures. At 6 p.m., the event fades into its evening portion, which includes a live auction of the decorated trees and wreaths, as well as a silent auction.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Bowman said the reason for the Nov. 16 date, even though Christmas is still a ways away, is that many people like to purchase their Christmas trees after Thanksgiving, which is right around the corner.
And for those who buy a tree, transport won’t be an issue. Bowman said the trees will be wrapped and delivered at no cost.
The idea to start what Bowman said she hopes will become an annual event stemmed from the Fayette County Board of Realtors, who have been hosting a similar event for two decades.
Bowman said the Paulding Board of Realtors liked the idea of combining a community event that not only gives back to charity, but adds a little to the board’s coffers for membership benefits.
“It’s a win-win-win,” she said.
The selected charity is the Children’s Foundation of Paulding, which is an organization that disseminates funds to various youth-related charity groups.
“That way, you’re giving to more than just one charity group,” Bowman said.
She said the intent is for the event to continue for years to come and to expand.
"Hopefully, we'll be successful this year and next year it'll grow," Bowman said.
The event is sponsored by Georgia Multiple Listing Service, Amerispec Home Inspections, The Realty Group, Fidelity Bank, Housemasters, Loan South and State Farm-John Henderson.
