The Sandy Springs Police Department Thursday morning announced the North Metro SWAT arrested a suspect who had barricaded himself inside his home and threatened his mother with a weapon.

Wednesday night Sandy Springs Police and North Metro SWAT responded to a call of a gunman, Edward Quenzer, in the home at 1215 Old Woodbine Road in south Sandy Springs. According to his mother, just before 10 p.m., Quenzer threatened her with a Taser-type of stun gun after she contacted police regarding his irrational behavior. She told officers Quenzer has been displaying symptoms of schizophrenia and paranoia. Quenzer is said to have at least one or more weapons in the home. Surrounding residents were evacuated by police, and negotiators spoke with Quenzer.

But in an email to the media Thursday at 4:57 a.m., Sgt. Ron Momon, a Sandy Springs Police spokesman, said police entered the residence and took Quenzer into custody without further incident. He was transported to Grady Memo-rial Hospital in downtown Atlanta for a mental evaluation.
