Brews & Chews for Vision is back — yet another opportunity to show that a good time can be had for a good cause.

That is how organizers and supporters framed their endorsement of the event set for Friday at Monday Night Brewing, from 6 to 9 p.m. The celebratory convergence of food, craft beer and music was established to raise funds for Prevent Blindness Georgia’s vision screening program.

“The Brews & Chews event will be a fun way to unwind at the end of a work week in a unique environment with local beer and local food to support a great cause,” said Ellen McCarty, acting CEO of Prevent Blindness Georgia. “We are excited to bring back another version of this popular event and to raise awareness and funding for our mission — preventing blindness and preserving sight for all Georgians.”

Attendees will enjoy pairings of craft brews and delectable chews designed to delight the palate, all while enjoying the musical stylings of a popular Atlanta rhythm and blues band, the Etta James Gang.

As further enticement, the event, sponsored by SoloHealth, offers an array of raffle prizes.

Brews & Chews for Vision is the biggest annual fundraiser for the nonprofit sector’s premier voice on sight loss prevention. Nearly half a century after its founding, resources are still as precious as ever.

Prevent Blindness Georgia was founded in 1965 as the state affiliate of Prevent Blindness America, the country’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organization.

The organization, whose focus is on promoting a continuum of vision care, touches the lives of thousands of people each year, said Brews & Chews Chair Heather Howdeshell.

The entity’s year-round campaign involves public and professional education, advocacy and certified vision screening and training as well as community and patient service programs.

Events like Brews & Chews are a means to those ends. The element of having a good time while contributing to the sustainability of its benefactor makes participation a win-win, organizers say.

“Brews & Chews promises great music and a chance to sample some of the best beers in Atlanta and all for a great cause,” said Howdeshell. “I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday night than enjoying craft beers while preserving and protecting the vision of our children and seniors.”

Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance. One does not need to be present to win.
