The election will be Nov. 6 and will consist of four council members — each with a district — and a mayor. Each candidate for election to the city council must reside in the district he or she seeks to represent.
The mayoral term will end 2015 upon administration of oath of office to successor, councilmembers for districts 1 and 3 will also end in 2015, while councilmembers for districts 2 and 4 will end in 2013.
Each candidate will file notice of his or her candidacy and the appropriate affidavit in the office of DeKalb County Voter Registration & Elections, 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300, Decatur. The qualifying fee for mayor is $480 and the fee for city council members is $360.
The last day to register to be eligible to vote in this special election is Oct. 8.
The special election will be held in the city of Brookhaven at the following precincts: Ashford Dunwoody Road, Ashford Park Elementary, Ashford Parkside, Briarwood, Brookhaven, Cross Keys High, Kittredge Elementary, Montclair Elementary, Montgomery Elementary, Silver Lake, Skyland and Woodward Elementary.
The polls open Nov. 6 at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
