Alpharetta had one of the most challenging non-region schedules in Georgia football this season, beginning the 2013 campaign with contests against Harrison, Milton and Lovejoy with the latter two squads making the postseason last year. The Raiders emerged from that stretch with a 1-2 but have opened strongly in Region 6-AAAAAA play with wins over the last two weeks over West Forsyth (31-17) and South Forsyth (38-16).

“We’re pleased with how the team is coming together,” Alpharetta head coach Jason Dukes said. “We’ve played challenging games that tested our preparation, toughness and ability to deal with competition that may have advantages over us.” Alpharetta’s (3-2, 2-0) two losses this season came to a Milton team that’s been ranked in the state-wide polls in overtime and by a single point to Lovejoy, which has also been ranked and made the state championship game last season.

The Raiders’ exacted revenge earlier this season on a West Forsyth squad that beat them last year, therefore earning the tiebreaker for the region championship when the two teams tied for first in 2012. “It was an important game for us,” Dukes said. “We prepared very hard for that contest and spent more time in the film room and the practice field. Our kids went out and executed well.”
