A main goal for the foundation is to sponsor camp scholarships for under-privileged Sandy Springs children. The board gave updates about its 501 c(3) status, website and other initiatives at its meeting Wednesday at City Hall.
Christine Bruno, the board’s chair, said the foundation now has a domain name, www.sandyspringsfoundation.com, but the website is still under construction. Eden Freeman, assistant city manager, and advisor to the board, suggested the board set up a payment system on its website through a provider such as e-tapestry.
The board is still waiting on approval of its nonprofit status, and Freeman said there was no way to estimate when it would officially be designated as a nonprofit. Members of the board will distribute camp scholarship solicitation letters through the city’s e-newsletter and homeowner association newsletter, as well.
Freeman advised the board to remember the foundation also needs to focus on raising funds for other city nonprofits, though.
“I want to encourage you to also remember the Anne Frank exhibit, as well,” she said. “That’s a big deal for the mayor and city council.”
Those who wish to donate money to the foundation should designate on his or her check what they would like to sponsor, Freeman said.
The board plans to start distributing letters to city residents by the beginning of April in order to set up camp scholarships for city camps that begin in June.
