The Atlanta Pleasure Band is set to bring its big sound by the Springs Sunday as part of Heritage Sandy Springs’ monthly concert series.
Christy Nickles, the nonprofit’s special events director, said organizers invited the nine-member band to the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn after seeing an online recording of their performance.
“I pulled up their video and everyone just fell in love,” Nickles said. “It was something new to bring to Heritage Green. It was going to be the wildcard.”
The Atlanta-based band, which formed in January 2011, plays music that spans decades and styles with a repertoire ranging from Earth Wind & Fire to Lady Gaga, said drummer Greg Pittman.
“We cover a lot of genres — rock, pop, soul, R&B, a lot of Motown and beach music,” he said.
Since the group started, its members have mostly played weddings and various other gigs in Georgia and surrounding states.
Singer Chimere Scott said the experience has been great but the band’s members are hoping to break into a bigger scene.
The invitation to Concerts by the Springs helped confirm the group was getting there, she said.
“When something like this happens it’s a great honor. It helps us see how hard we’ve been working and that people are watching,” Scott said. “We want to perform for as many different people in as many different cities as possible and it looks like we’re on our way to doing that.”
Sunday’s concert will open the series as last month’s Swingin’ Medallions performance was rained out. The Swingin’ Medallions have been rescheduled to June 17, Nickles said.
The nonprofit encourages concert goers to arrive early to either picnic or visit onsite food trucks Honeysuckle Gelato, Hail Caesar and Pressed for Time Paninis. Blankets and coolers are welcomed.
Parking for this free concert is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated parking lots and in the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church’s Hitson Activity Center lot, on Sandy Springs Circle.
