The French singer of religious and classical music will perform Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at The City of Lights Café & Concert, co-hosted by the synagogue and the Chabad Israeli Center, also in Sandy Springs. The Yeshiva Atlanta Girls’ Choir is the opening act. During the event Méléha will share her life story with the audience.
“It’s very exciting to have a singer of this caliber,” said Candice Keilin, the synagogue’s sisterhood president who is co-chairing the event with Marissa Bonnet. “To share her story with the community and to have something cultural is beautiful. It’s something different. It’s great for our community to bring a singer of this caliber here to share with both the Jewish community and non-Jewish community.
“Any time people can bring someone from a different culture to our community and to be able to share it is exciting.”
The event is open to the public but is geared toward women. It will include French signature cocktails, a coffee and tea bar and a light dinner including French pastries. Tickets are $25 and sponsorships are available for $180 and include VIP seating.
Méléha, a celebrity in France, is one of a kind.
“She writes her own songs and she sings her songs in three languages — French, Hebrew and Yiddish, the latter of which is sort of a dying language,” Keilin said.
The synagogue is located at 5065 High Point Road.
