Sandy Springs’ Susansnaps featured on ‘Today’

In an email to the Neighbor Wednesday, Susan Stachler, co-owner of Susansnaps in Sandy Springs, announced the business was featured on the “Today” show on NBC earlier this month.

NBC correspondent Sara Haines visited the shop to hear its story first hand and bake a few snaps, too. The segment aired April 16 on the fourth hour with co-anchors Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. Producer Durrell Dawson found the inspiration behind the company “a story of hope and family.”

“After sampling some of our gourmet gingersnaps, Kathie Lee said, “They’re delicious! I love them because they’re not too sweet and Hoda loves them because just sweet enough!” Stachler wrote. “What a thrill for us to have such a fabulous celebrity endorsement. Sara Haines finished our segment by saying, 'What a great gift if you haven’t gotten your mother something to send some Susansnaps.'”

Susansnaps was started after Stachler, at age 22, was diagnosed with cancer. Her mother, Laura Stachler, launched the cookie company in memory of Laura’s sister Sue, who died of Hodgkin’s disease at age 28.

Ginger is a natural stomach soother, so through Laura Stachler’s small dessert company, she developed gourmet gingersnaps. As the cookies got more popular, she coined them “Susansnaps” in memory of Sue.

Today, the Stachlers bake up to 10,000 snaps a day for both local and nationwide orders.
