North Metro All-Star Basketball event

A number of the top senior high school basketball players in north Fulton will participate in the inaugural North Metro Senior All-Star Basketball Experience, which will be held in March.

The event gets underway with a Year-End Awards and All-Star Player Recognition banquet March 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta.

A Skills Competition Night will take place March 14 at 7 p.m. at Blessed Trinity and will feature players chosen to represent their schools. It will include a slam dunk contest, a three-point shooting contest, a skills course for guards, a co-ed team challenge and a girls’ scoring contest.

The event concludes with girls’ and boys’ senior All-Star games at Blessed Trinity March 15, with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ contest at 7:30 p.m.

Blessed Trinity boys’ coach Brian Marks will coach the South team in the boys’ game, while Lambert coach Scott Bracco will be the coach of the North team.

Alpharetta girls’ coach Natalie Vuoriaho will coach the South team in the girls’ game, with North Forsyth coach Eric Herrick coaching the North squad.

The event will be held by XL212, an Alpharetta-based sport-event management and marketing company.


Local teams featured in GHSFL tournament

Several north Fulton high school fencing teams will be among the teams competing in the Georgia High School Fencing League team championship March 1 at Pope High School.

Alpharetta, Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek, Northview and Roswell are among the 15 teams competing in the event.

Junior Patriot Football and Cheer Registration

Registration for the 2014 Patriot Community Sports football and cheer teams will begin March 1. The Junior Patriot football and cheer programs participate in Division II of the North Metro Football League

Collegiates & Legends golf tourney in Roswell

Thirty of the leading LPGA Legends Tour golf professionals will tee it up with 60 of the top collegiate female golfers at the Judson Collegiate & Legends Pro-Am Challenge at Country Club of Roswell June 27 through 30.

This is the second stop of the season for the Legends Tour and is the only event that allows women collegiate golfers to play alongside former stars of the LPGA. The event is hosted by 13-time LPGA and six-time Legends Tour champion Rosie Jones, an Atlanta resident.

The first day of the event features a Pro-Am challenge, where area amateurs are paired with Legend Tour professionals and collegiate players.

The second day is a one-day Legends Tour tournament, with a purse of $120,000, while the third part of the event is a three-day collegiate stroke-play competition for the collegiate players.

The event will get under way with a Women’s Leadership Workshop June 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on 1075 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell. The workship was created by the JCI Foundation to provide mentorship and education for young women who are still in college or just entering the workforce.

Cost: $10 for general admission, children under 17 and military personnel with ID get in free, discounts for groups of 10 or more. For the workshop, $55 for general admission, students get in free.
