Several players from Holy Innocents’ and Pace were among those who were chosen to the All-Region 5A football team, which was released last Wednesday.
Pace quarterback Kevin Johnson shared offensive player of the year honors with Landmark Christian’s Stockton McGuire, while Pace defensive back Denzel Franklin was defensive player of the year along with Eagle’s Landing Christian’s Josh Shockley. Holy Innocents’ standout Clay Pfohl was the co-winner of the Coaches Award with Landmark’s William Higbie.
Quarterback Luke Wright was among the first team offense selections for Holy Innocents’, along with offensive lineman Jay Rolander. Two Pace players — wide receiver Kameron Uter and running back Malik Staples — also were first team choices on offense.
Holy Innocents’ also had three first team defense selections in linebacker Rod Davis, defensive back Connor Dolan and punter Owen Penn, with Pace defensive lineman Anthony Trinh the only other local choice on defense.
Marist players named to All-Region 6AAAA team
A number of Marist standouts were among the players who were selected to the All-Region 6AAAA team, which was released last Friday.
Running back Marcus Miller, center John Simoneaux and offensive lineman Sean McVay were first team offense selections, while defensive end Kendall Baker, defensive tackle Kenneth Brinson and cornerback Trey Oates were first team defensive selections.
Kicker Joey Gogol and long-snapper Matt Hill were among the first team special teams honorees.
Sandy Springs camps
The city of Sandy Springs is offering gymnastics and SporTots camps for the holidays as well as a youth wrestling program at North Springs High School for ages 7 through 14.
Cost: $25 per child for the wrestling program, which includes a uniform T-shirt.
