A number of local lacrosse standouts were selected to the 2014 GA PrepCountry girls’ lacrosse All-State team, which was released last Wednesday.
Westminster led the way with four players on the Class AAAAA-A first team – defenders Maggie Cushing, Andi Carrandi and Kate Cordle and goalkeeper Katie McGahan.
Also selected to the AAAAA-A first team were Holy Innocents’ midfielder Annie Bennett and Woodward defender/midfielder Madison Richardson.
Westminster also had two second-team choices – midfielder Chandler McCamey and attacker Cabell Zakas – while Lovett attacker Frances Salmon and St. Pius X midfielder/defender Katherine Vocelka were honorable mention selections.
Woodward football player honored
Woodward running back/ defensive back Quincy Wolff was recognized by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta as a George Morris Scholar-Athlete scholarship award winner at a special banquet April 27 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Atlanta.
The award is named in memory of former Georgia Tech lineman and College Football Hall of Fame member George Morris and is given to those student-athletes for their combined accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in their communities.
