The Sprouts Farmers Market Dunwoody location opened to much fanfare last week. The Phoenix, Ariz.-based grocer brands itself with the motto of “healthy living for less.” The location, at 2480 Mount Vernon Road, features everything from fresh produce, a bakery section, a deli section, a variety of dairy and non-dairy items, bulk items, health and beauty items and more.

During a special preview of the store the day before its official opening, representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency honored the store for its innovative climate-friendly refrigeration technology, according to a news release.

Regional Administrator Heather McTeer Toney presented the store with a GreenChill platinum-level store certification, the highest honor under the GreenChill partnership program, for its refrigeration system.

“I congratulate Sprouts Farmers Market’s Dunwoody store for taking action against climate change by deploying climate-friendly refrigeration technology,” said McTeer Toney. “I encourage others in the supermarket industry to follow their innovative approach to climate protection.”

The Dunwoody market is the fourth supermarket in the U.S. to use this refrigeration technology, and it is the southern most deployment of the technology in North America, according to a news release.

At the opening, Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis said he was excited to have the store in the city and that it would be a good fit for the community.

“This is exactly the kind of store that Dunwoody residents want,” he said. “This is really high-quality fruit, high-quality vegetables … just everything is top-notch here. This is going to be unbelievable.”

Residents Susie and Patrick Lane, who live near the market location, said they were happy the store was closer than another market.

“It’s great and it should be a lot more convenient than going over to Whole Foods,” said Lane. She added her brother who works in the produce industry, told her of the market and that she was going to love it.

“We are all organic as much as we can and non-GMO, and that goes all the way down to dog food,” she said. “So thus the reason that it’s convenient and just down the street.”

Store hours are daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
