Wrestling will have to wait an extra week to crown its state champions after last week’s winter storm forced the postponement of the GHSA state traditional wrestling tournament.

Originally scheduled for last weekend at Gwinnett Arena in Duluth, the competition will now be held Friday and Saturday.

The tournament will be moved to another site due to a scheduling conflict with Gwinnett Arena.

Chattahoochee will host the AAAAAA tournament, while the other new sites are Commerce High School (Class A), Toombs County High School (AA), Buford High School (AAA), West Laurens High School (AAAA) and Loganville High (AAAAA).

Roswell will have seven wrestlers in the AAAAAA tournament – Landon Ninesling (106-pound weight class), Robert Woolley (113), John Bazemore (120), DeMarco Gatti (152), Charles Routt (160), Ryan Willis (220) and Cameron Whiteman (285).

“We are excited to put seven guys through to the state tournament this year,” Roswell coach Evan Goff said. “All seven can win some matches and a few have a chance of making the [awards] podium. The sacrifice and hard work for a full season basically comes down to this one last tournament.”

Chattahoochee also has seven wrestlers competing in the AAAAAA competition – Ethan Phillips (106), Jordan Pitt (113), Matt Pilus (145), Rowdy Miller (152), Sean Hoffman (195), Taylor Podhouser (220) and Perry Barton (285).

Cambridge looks to contend in the AAAAA tournament after edging out defending champion Pope in the Area 7AAAAA tournament Feb. 1.

The Bears will have nine wrestlers competing – J.R. Salemi (120), Brandon Filosi (126), Chris Anderson (132), Will Britain (138), Devin Kane (145), Luke Williams (160), Eric Cizek (182), Jalen Hammons (220) and Malik McNeal (285).

“The team is remaining focused and the off week helped us a little, so we could heal up a couple of nagging injuries on some guys,” Cambridge coach Don St. James said. “As a team, our goal is to remain humble and perform at our highest level and to give thanks for the abilities that we have been dealt.”

Northview will be represented by Keewan Williams (182) and John Kenyon (195) in the AAAAA competition.

Blessed Trinity will have Noah Kile (106), Michael Muller (145), Kyle Evans (152) and Ryan Grady (170) in the AAA tournament.

In Class A, St. Francis will be represented by Ethan Sparks (106), Taylor Weaver (120) and Seth Cecil (285), while Fellowship will feature Nate Shirley (152) and James Wilson (182).
