Last Wednesday, 23 members of the Jaguars’ 2013 football team signed scholarships. Six players headlined the momentous occasion by agreeing to play at the Division-I level.
Defensive back Jared Tucker will attend Kentucky, running back Dallas Rivers will head to Vanderbilt, offensive lineman Jordan Harris signed with Mississippi State, offensive lineman Tyler Jones will attend NC State, defensive back Cameron Glenn will head to Wake Forest and tight end/defensive end Montez Sweat signed with Michigan State.
“Montez Sweat will compete as a defensive end when he gets to campus,” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said. “He has an excellent frame at 6-6 and will be a force on the edge for us. He’s extremely athletic for his size and quick-bodied in short space.”
“Dallas brings a ton of power and what I’d call deceptive speed,” Stephenson assistant coach Corey Johnson said. “Guys don’t think he’s that fast but Dallas just never gets caught when you watch the highlight tapes.”
Also Ari Werts (tight end), Malik Ricks (linebacker) and Ronald Peterkin (defensive back) all agreed to attend Georgia State. Linebacker Delinine Warren signed with Tennessee-Chattanooga, defensive lineman Braxton Butler will head to Johnson C. Smith and Daniel Durden will attend Valdosta State.
Many other Jaguars will compete on the level at the same destination.
Chance Harper (linebacker) and Khalil Vincent (tight end) signed with Point. Wisdom Nzidee (kicker) and Abdul Mahmoud (LB) will attend Paine College. Jamal Hawkins (cornerback), Treikell Jones (defensive lineman) and Theron Chatman (DL) each signed with Mississippi Valley State.
Linemen Gavin Brown and Tommy Smith signed with Antelope Valley College in California and Tavonn Salters (DB) and Saddiq Green (wide receiver) will attend Atlanta Sports Academy.
