More than 400 guests will party for a cause at the fourth annual Summer Sizzle Aug. 22, which will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Brookhaven resident Katie Bush, who co-chairs the fundraiser along with Buckhead resident Katie Stewart, said she hopes attendees will come away from the event with a greater appreciation for the health care system and a spirit of giving back.

“Those of us in Atlanta with children in our lives are just so blessed to have Children’s here,” she said.

Last year the party raised $90,000, Bush said. She hopes to bring in even more this year. The money will go to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, which works with donors and helps raise funds to support the immediate needs of the health care system, said Kate Myers, the foundation’s senior program coordinator.

She said the money funds various programs and services, including art therapy, research and providing patients’ families with education and social workers.

“It goes also to things like the Big Apple [Circus] Clown Care Unit that’s at the hospital,” Myers said. “We have clowns that walk around and bring laughter and some silliness to the patients to take their minds off all of the hard things that are going on.”

The event, which will be held at Summerour Studio in west Midtown, will be a fun, end-of-the-summer bash with a beach theme, Bush said.

“It’s just a casual party where we can come together and give back for a great cause,” she said.

Guests can enjoy cocktails, food catered by Endive, music and dancing. Bush said the Bradley Cole Smith Band will provide the entertainment during the first portion of the evening with a laid-back acoustic set.

“Then we have a DJ coming in for the second half of the evening so people can get a little bit more into the dance party scene,” she said.

There will also be a silent auction with rare art and travel deals. Last year, the event sold out and Bush said she hopes to cap it at 425 guests again this year. As of Friday morning, 404 tickets had already been sold, she said.
