UPDATED WEDNESDAY: Henry County Police spokesman Sgt. Joey Smith reported this afternoon at 4:30 p.m., "We are working a serious one-vehicle accident with several persons ejected in the area of 1400 Pates Creek Road. The roadway is closed to traffic."

Media reports tonight stated three Dutchtown HS teens were in the car; one, Jasmine Poole, 16, of McDonough, died at the scene and the others, not yet identified except as a male and female, were airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Henry County Schools spokesman J.D. Hardin said grief counselors will be at the school Thursday.

"Our thoughts are with the injured and our condolences go out to the family of the student killed in today's accident," he said.

THURSDAY 8:45 A.M. Smith said, "In reference to the fatal accident yesterday on Pates Creek Road, we have no updates this morning on the conditions of the two victims flown to Grady Memorial. Preliminary investigation indicates that speed / reckless driving contributed to the accident and the lack of safety restraints on any of the occupants. It appears that alcohol or drugs did not play a factor. The case will most likely be presented to an upcoming Henry County grand jury to determine if any charges will be filed on the driver."

Poole was a passenger.

THURSDAY 10:35 A.M. Dutchtown High School Principal Terry Oatts said a vigil to honor Jasmine [Poole] and to pray for the recovery of the other two students who were injured is scheduled for tonight at 8 p.m. at the school's stadium.

"We have extensive crisis and emergency counseling that is being provided to our students by district student support services at this time," he said.

Dutchtown High School is located at 149 Mitchell Road in Hampton.
