Henry County’s Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Thanksgiving break camp from Nov. 19 to Nov. 21.

Camp hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will cost $75 per child.

Discounts for children of county employees will also be offered.

The camp will be at three locations in the county — Heritage Park in McDonough, J.P. Moseley Recreation Center in Stockbridge and Fairview Recreation Center in Stockbridge.

The camp is targeted for children ages 5 to 12.

Tina Fuff, camp coordinator, said the camp has been offered to residents for five years and each year attendance increases.

“Every year it just keeps getting bigger and bigger,” she said. “The first year, we thought we’d have 25 children. Last year we had anywhere from 60 to 65. This year, we should have at least that or more.”

Camp activities are staggered throughout the day, with arts and crafts, team building exercises and a bowling field trip to Fun Bowl in McDonough.

A camp like the Thanksgiving break one is an asset to the community, especially with the usage of the new Fairview Recreation Center.

“Parents will know that their children are in a safe place,” she said. “The locations are also centrally located so that really helps.”

Registration will run through Nov. 16 between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heritage Park, Fairview Recreation Center as well as the Locust Grove and J.P. Moseley recreation centers.

Guff said that parents can register their children on the day of the camp, Nov. 19, but a $10 late fee will be assessed.
