The Tams will perform Sunday to kick off Heritage Sandy Springs’ spring/summer concert series, Concerts by the Springs.
Familiar faces and music to dance to will be the order of the day as the Concerts by the Springs series returns with a Mother’s Day show at Heritage Green Park.

Crowd favorites The Tams will headline the first in the 2013 lineup of free outdoor outings hosted by Heritage Sandy Springs.

As has become customary, organizers are expecting a full house.

“Concerts by the Springs seem to get more popular each year, drawing on average 1,200 attendees per concert,” said Heritage Sandy Springs Executive Director Carol Thompson. “Our audiences are very loyal, very passionate and very vocal.”

Moreover, demand for tables and other prime real estate on the park’s terraced entertainment lawn during shows picks up each year.

Throw in a band that has garnered as much acclaim as The Tams have around these parts and that Sunday concert date appears to be one hot ticket.

The anticipation isn’t one-sided.

“We can’t wait,” said Tams manager Dianne Pope. “Sandy Springs seems like it loves The Tams and we want to return the favor by putting on a great show.”

The Atlanta-based, high-energy group will be belting out classic hits like its signature tune, “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy.” The band is now fronted by Little Redd, son of Pope and its co-founder, Charles.

The smooth-sounding vocal group is part of an eclectic lineup of acts tapped by Heritage Sandy Springs to carry the 2013 edition of its annual concert series, which runs through early September.

Gates for the Mother’s Day event are set to open at 5 p.m., with the main act scheduled to hit the stage at 7.

“The best part about waiting for the music to begin is getting to know your neighbors out on the lawn,” Thompson said. “We have people tell us they run into friends they haven’t seen in years.

“This spot has been a crossroads and a gathering place. … We want to continue being the place that residents and visitors gather in the heart of Sandy Springs.”
