The Sandy Springs Police Department announced Friday in a news release that detectives have charged 28-year-old Kelton Jackson, of Atlanta, with nine counts of entering automobiles in connection with a series of car break-ins that occurred last month. Jackson was arrested after detectives tracked him down to an extended-stay hotel in DeKalb County.

An alert homeowner was able to get a tag number after Jackson drove from his residence, leading to Jackson’s arrest. Jackson has an extensive criminal history including various larcenies, drug and weapons charges, etc.

Sandy Springs Police are urging the public to pay specific attention to preventing thefts from automobiles. Jackson told investigators these crimes were made easy by people leaving items in plain sight inside vehicles. Some of the items left inside these vehicles include golf clubs, credit cards, purses, wallets, laptop computers, jewelry, clothing and cash.

The police recommend people remove all visible items from vehicles even in their own driveways. If going to a shopping center, put items in the trunk or out of sight prior to arriving at the location. These simple efforts can help prevent residents from being victims of theft from auto-related crimes.
