Catch a sneak peak of the Trinity School’s annual artists’ market starting Saturday at Saks Fifth Avenue at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead.

“We try to get a representative mix of what’s going to be there in February,” said Michelle Anderson, Spotlight on Art chair. “We’ll have returning [local] artists like Steve Penley, as well as new emerging artists. We try to keep it fresh and unique and high end in an artistic way.”

Anderson said the Saks exhibit will offer a wide range of artwork at varying price points from 23 artists, and is an ideal place to Christmas shop.

She said the exhibit has been “incredibly successful” in past years, and 2011 was a “record-breaking year.”

“I believe our sales [last year] were around $75,000. We take a 50-50 split with artists,” Anderson said.

Saks does not take a penny from the school, Anderson said, and the parents and staff are grateful for its generosity.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for us because we couldn’t have volunteers for two months to facilitate sales,” she said. “It allows us to get exposure for the artist market, beyond our little corner in Buckhead.”

“We’ve got contemporary [art], realism, impressionism, folk art, sculpture, pottery. It runs the gamut,” she said.

Anderson said the exhibit offers more “gifty” items in December, like vases and candle sticks, and they re-stock with larger canvases in January and mount everything on large panels.

It will be Mark Boomershine’s third year of entering his artwork into the Saks exhibit. He works with acrylic paints on canvas, and described himself as a figurative painter. Boomershine paints custom portraits and pop-icon portraits, as well as vintage automotive pieces, three of which will be featured at Saks.

“I use broad brush strokes to try and create a somewhat realistic but contemporary look,” he said. Trinity has a special place in Boomershine’s heart because his wife Cinda went there and his nieces currently attend, he said.

Anderson said there will be two events at Saks, including a family friendly sing-along where Trinity third- and fourth-graders will sing Christmas carols Dec. 8 at 11 a.m.

Saks Night Out will be Jan. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m., and is open to the public. Several of the featured artists attend and cocktails will be served.

The Spotlight on Art artists’ market will take place Feb. 4 through 9 on Trinity’s campus.
