TurningPoint Women’s Healthcare, a nonprofit breast cancer rehabilitation organization, announced that the Walmart Foundation has provided a $50,000 state giving grant for its financial assistance program and educational events.

Grants funded will be used to provide rehabilitation, exercise and educational programs for under-insured and uninsured women with breast cancer.

“Walmart is committed to helping address unmet needs in the communities where we serve,” said Jermaine Jackson, a Walmart representative. “Our support for TurningPoint underscores this commitment, and we are hopeful that through our grant, we can provide hope, support and education in an atmosphere of wellness.”

Jill Binkley, founder and executive director of the nonprofit said, “We’re both thrilled and honored to receive the support of the Walmart Foundation. This grant will provide a substantial boost for our financial assistance program and the many educational events we host.”

The nonprofit recently announced plans to move to a larger, more centrally located facility in 2013. The nonprofit hopes to raise $100,000 toward the move over the next six months.

The nonprofit now faces the need of expanded space and improved location to serve more women in greater Atlanta, and to serve as a model clinic nationally. The clinic is in need of additional space for exercise programs and community meetings. Space is also needed to accommodate the nonprofit’s program of educating healthcare providers about breast cancer rehabilitation so that more women can be offered specialized care that improves quality of life after breast cancer.
